TEXT:  1 John 5:16-19

INTRODUCTION:

  1. Many talk about, discuss an “unpardonable sin”
  2. Our text uses the phrase – “sin unto death”
  3. This sermon will not look at the “unpardonable sin”

 Logic – Unpardonable Sin

  1. If there is a sin that is unpardonable – why worry about it?
  2. There is no sense trying to see if we did it – too late!

 Logic – 1 John 5

  1. Every sin confessed will be forgiven – 1 John 1:9
  2. There is a sin unto death – do not pray for them
  3. Conclusion: Sin not confessed = sin unto death

 How to Prevent

  1. Take an honest look at yourself
  2. Are there sins in your life that are not corrected?
  3. Confession should be as open and public as the sin is known
    1. Private – Repent and pray
    2. Known – Confess to those who know; Repent; Pray
    3. Public – Confess to church; Repent; Request forgiveness
